GRAMMAR TIP

To talk about things you have been doing for a period of time (and are still doing now), you can use the present perfect continuous.

This is formed using three parts:

has/have + been +verb in -ing.

It is used to talk about events that started in the past but are still continuing in the present.

For example:

My friends and I have been studying English for ten years.

(We started ten years ago and are still studying now.)

Activity 2

  • Write at least five sentences using the present perfect continuous.

  • Many times we start things at one point in our lives and they continue to happen in this moment. Use the present perfect continuous to write five sentences about actions that were started in the past but continue in the present day.

Use the subjects given.

Example:

I have been teaching at the university level for 15 years now.

I ___________________________________________________________

My family and I ______________________________________________

This country _________________________________________________

My classmates _______________________________________________ •

You (question) _______________________________________________

**Ask this last question to a classmate and write down his/her answer.**
