Week 1 - Proyect 9 - Detective Problems

 PROJECT 9:   “PROBLEMS DETECTIVES AND FUTURE UNIVERSITY STUDIES”, 3rd B.G.U.


Project Goal: Focus on solving everyday problems from home or the community. Apply the scientific method to discover the possible solutions for any type of problem. The level of complexity will be given by the interests of the students themselves.

Topic:  Connectors of Contrast Personality, professions, and university degrees vocabulary

Listen to the following audio then answer the following questions

  • Now it is time to discuss about university degrees with your partner.

  • Work in groups and discuss

  • then, prepare a short essay about it

  • Discuss the following questions with a partner.

Explain your opinion.


  1. Do you know someone who has a Bachelor’s degree? 

  2. A Master’s?A PhD? What did they study? Where? 

  3. What is he or she working as now?

  4. What do you think you would like to study? 

  5. What degree do you plan on getting?

  6. If money is not a factor, do you think that everyone is capable of getting a Ph.D.? 

Activity 2

Would you like to take a class entirely on the internet? Why or why not?

Answer the following questions in complete sentences.

• After considering all the advantages and disadvantages, do you think online programs are right for you? Explain.

• Are there some subjects you think would work better online than others? Consider sciences, history, languages… Explain.

• Do you know any universities that offer online programs in your country?

• Do you think the future of education will be online? Explain.


GRAMMAR TIP

To use connectors of contrast, you need two ideas that oppose each other. 

A opposes B.

For example: “You should think about your future,

however you shouldn’t stress too much.”

Other words that show juxtaposition are nevertheless,

nonetheless, although, on the other hand, yet.

Notice how advantages and disadvantages are juxtaposed using connectors of contrast such as on one hand… on the other hand, however
